Patrick Gentile, Board President, and founder of the CT nonprofit organization SimplifyCT, has announced the hiring of Shobana Mani as the organization’s new Executive Director beginning January 2, 2023.
“We are truly grateful and incredibly excited that Shobana will be taking over as SimplifyCT’s Executive Director. Her passion for our mission and vision for our future will ensure that we continue to broaden SimplifyCT’s impact with our low-income and at-risk neighbors in Connecticut,” says Gentile.
Mani will focus on all aspects of organizational growth to deliver increased community impact. Specifically, she will lead further development and execution of SimplifyCT’s vision/strategy, fundraising, community outreach, and marketing/communications. She will also support and continue building out the SimplifyCT team to grow core Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and related services and expand programmatic and geographic reach.
“One of the major differences between SimplifyCT and other VITA providers is our technology-based, virtual solution that remains open year-round, not just during the tax season. While our focus is on CT, our technology and call center are available to other states and national organizations to support the needs of their at-risk populations. For example, we just completed a major national campaign on the Child Tax Credit. We reached out to over 150,000 families, completed close to 6,200 returns, and delivered over $19 million in benefits. Under Shobana’s leadership, we want to dramatically increase the populations we serve and broaden the programs we support.”
After a 15-year finance career, Mani redirected her considerable talents to the fashion and mission driven sectors. She has worked, consulted and volunteered with numerous for-profit and nonprofit organizations which have been both established and start-up.
Her leadership skills and focus on advising start-ups and measuring their impact will be invaluable to SimplifyCT.
“I’m honored to be leading this amazing and committed team.,” says Mani. “We have delivered incredible results since our founding but the needs of our clients remain significant. There is tremendous opportunity to achieve even greater impact. I look forward to working with everyone involved with SimplifyCT, including our employees, volunteers, community partners and donors.”
