Created out of the need to provide a safe, secure, and contactless way for low-income Connecticut families to access free tax preparation and qualify for state and Federal benefits, SimplifyCT was launched in 2020. We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Seniors, students, individuals, and families of all kinds.
Up until 2020, our IRS trained and certified VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax preparers met face to face with people across Connecticut in places like community centers and libraries, but because of the COVID19 pandemic, we changed our process to be online-only, launching SimplifyCT to keep our families and our staff safe and socially distant.
We’re pleased to be back to face-to-face service once again, but please note that we continue to follow federal COVID best practices at each of our locations.
With SimplifyCT, Security is Built in
Because we deal with sensitive financial information, we built our free tax prep platform as an end-to-end encrypted solution, the very first in Connecticut.
Our secure online portal is open 24 hours a day, with no long lines, no waiting, and no appointments necessary. Once documents are uploaded, our team of over 60 volunteer IRS certified tax professionals prepare returns usually within 24 hours of submission. There is NO CHARGE for any of our services.
In addition, every year our IRS certified tax preparers are required to complete extensive training, and must successfully pass a comprehensive exam. Each volunteer also signs a binding Ethics agreement with the IRS, confirming that all information they access is kept confidential and secure.
The majority of our virtual VITA volunteers have 10+ years of tax-filing experience, and are ready and willing to answer your financial questions.
