Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) Services
Our ITIN clinic is closed for the season. We will reopen in May 2025.
SimplifyCT is helping people apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for FREE. An ITIN is also referred to as a Tax ID.
What is an ITIN?
An ITIN is a 9-digit identification number issued by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) to individuals who are not entitled to a Social Security Number.
Who needs an ITIN?
If you are an undocumented person working in the US, you must comply with tax laws by filing your taxes. You may be entitled to credits by filing a return. *An ITIN is not a work permit nor does it grant authorization to work legally in the US.
Are you eligible?
Fill out our form to see if you are eligible for an ITIN. We’ll contact you by April 2025 with more information and next steps.
How does it work?
- Submit your ITIN eligibility form to SimplifyCT by clicking on “Start Now.”
- In April, we will file an extension of time to file your 2024 tax return. Our team will either text or call you to get your consent for the extension over the phone.
- Beginning in May, we will call you to set up a face-to-face appointment at Building One Community (Stamford, CT) to certify your documents and complete your ITIN application.
- During your appointment, we will prepare your W-7 (ITIN application) and tax return. We will also certify your ID documents and send copies of your documents to the IRS via Certified Mail.
- If you have any questions, kindly reach out to our Customer Service Team at 860-590-8910 and they will be happy to assist you.

“I was very happy at how easy and stress-free the whole process of preparing your taxes was. Due to the pandemic, we filed our taxes through the website. The process is user-friendly. They are always there for you by phone/email from beginning to end until your taxes are completed and submitted to the IRS. This is an excellent free tax service for the community and I highly recommend it.” — Tania Z.
“Many Connecticut families deeply affected by the COVID-19 crisis are unfortunately not receiving the financial support they are entitled to by the CARES stimulus, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, or other government programs. I applaud the work that VITA is doing to get our citizens the financial help they need and deserve.” — Governor Ned Lamont
