Juan Berrios is the Executive Director of SimplifyCT, bringing more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, financial empowerment, tax services, and community-based human services. His career has focused on expanding access to critical resources, strengthening organizations, and developing innovative approaches that help individuals and families achieve greater financial stability.
Prior to joining SimplifyCT, Juan spent more than 14 years with the Human Resources Agency of New Britain, where he began as a VITA volunteer and ultimately rose to Assistant Director of Operations. During his tenure, he led multidisciplinary teams and programs spanning financial services, energy assistance, community services, and health and wellness. He also helped significantly expand the agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and was an early leader in developing hybrid and virtual approaches to free tax preparation.
An IRS Certified Acceptance Agent and longtime IRS-certified VITA tax preparer, Juan is a strong advocate for tax equity, financial empowerment, and connecting people to the resources and opportunities available to them. His leadership philosophy is rooted in collaboration, innovation, and the belief that technology and human connection can work together to create more accessible and effective services.
Juan is also deeply engaged in his community and currently serves as President of the New Britain Public Library Board of Trustees, along with other civic and educational leadership roles. A lifelong New Britain resident, Juan remains proud to call the city home, where he lives with his pup, Layla. Outside of work and community service, he is an avid musician and enjoys performing and making music with his various musical projects.
