For immediate release.

February 26, 2024, Darien, CT

SimplifyCT, a non-profit whose mission is to unlock entitled benefits for underserved communities through free tax services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Juan Berrios to the position of Executive Director effective February 26.

On behalf of SimplifyCT’s Board President, Dr. Mark Spivack, Founding Director, Patrick Gentile noted that “Berrios brings a wealth of experience in operations management, an in-depth knowledge of volunteer tax services, plus extensive community outreach and fund-raising activities, all critical to our growth objectives.”

Berrios, with over fifteen years of involvement in non-profit operations management, has implemented strategic initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness; was a pioneer in the use of virtual tax preparation; partnered with educational institutions to train and manage students in volunteer tax preparation via the IRS’s VITA program; was involved with and managed social programs such as victims’ advocacy, elderly services and energy assistance; and procured grants in support of managing multimillion-dollar budgets.

In his new role at SimplifyCT Berrios will lead the organization’s efforts to streamline processes; provide accessible services and benefits via its core VITA tax program; and expand its reach to at-risk residents in Connecticut and other geographies.

SimplifyCT, in just a bit more than two years of its founding, has filed almost 30,000 tax returns and delivered some $70 million in benefits to its base clientele and at-risk populations.

For any questions or additional details on Mr. Berrios or the VITA program, please contact the SimplifyCT team at help@simplifyct.org.
